She joined Seattle Reign FC, now OL Reign in the National Women's Soccer League NWSL which was formed in the wake of the demise of WPS. Rapinoe was soon a top player for the team, and eventually was named captain. Her first FIFA Women's World Cup was back in 2011. In the years 2015 and 2019 her efforts have assisted the U.S. Women's World Cup winning team to win consecutive World Cups. She was made cocaptain. Rapinoe has won two bronze medals in the United States' 4-3 win against Australia at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Japan has been postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
